Beltran Should Bat Second

Carlos Beltran of the New York Mets is probably most famous for his absolute tear of home runs he hit during the 2004 playoffs. He broke Barry Bonds single season post season home run record by clocking 8 long balls. As a side note, I actually take quite a bit of comfort knowing that almost every record Barry has or will set will fall in a few short years. Back on point however, Beltran got hot at the right moment, the Mets trumped the Yanks on their offer, and no one has regretted it since.

After Beltran's massive collision with Mike Cameron on August 11, 2005 in New York's center field, Beltran wasn't quite himself. In fact, most of 2005 was written off as Carlos not quite being himself. It's a good thing his power numbers returned in 2006, and since then he's progressed back into the player the Mets are on the hook for nearly $20 million a year.

The one criticism that is always tossed around of Beltran is the fact that he doesn't hit for average. I say poppy-kosh! The guy had an OBP last season of .372! The guy gets on base, and I don't care how he does it. Now that he's finding his legs again and swiping some bases, it would be a perfect time to slide him into the two hole after Jose Reyes. Moving Beltran into the two hole will give Jose more opportunities to run, more speed at the top of the lineup, and force pitchers to throw strikes to Beltran. Lets face it... if you have to face Beltran, Wright, and a healthy Carlos Delgado, there really isn't a good way to approach it.

Now imagine what that'd be like with Manny hitting 4th instead of Delgado? BOO YEA!
