Forget Sheep, Clone David Wright

David Wright reminded the NY Mets fans yesterday exactly why he is the future of this franchise. The New York Mets also reminded the National League why Brad Penny and the Dodgers suck. The Mets lineup tagged 8 hits on Penny and scored 6 runs, 5 of them earned in the first 4 innings of the game. The Mets then went on to secure their third straight victory. Two of those hits, and four of the RBI came off the bat of Mr. David Wright, arguably the best third baseman in the National League.

What makes this performance even sweeter was that both home runs, and all Wright's RBI came with 2 outs.

"That's a back-breaker," Wright said after the game. "When you get those big two-out hits, those big two-out RBIs, they just take the air out of your [opponent's] sails. Those are golden."

Penny's reaction was a bit disgusted to say the least, “I’m behind in the count, everybody’s a tough hitter—I’m a tough hitter.”

Obviously Penny's giant head was swelling so badly that he forgot about his career .158 batting average, but his point remains. Falling behind in the count to good hitters forces the pitcher to throw predictable pitches for strikes. The Mets hitters capitalized, scored some runs, won the ball game and spread the smiles all around. 3 wins in a row isn't life changing, but its a step in the right direction.
