Dancin with the Mets

Jose Reyes and his high fives are back! After a slow start to the 2008 season, a tweaked hamstring, and general malaise, the Mets all star short stop appears to have found himself again. Dancing and smiling have been Jose Reyes' calling card since he was named the starting SS for the Amazin's. Unfortunately this season brought out a more serious side to Jose, and with it, more stress and tension. This resulted in a slow start, and a little bit of uneasy feelings that the hangover from 2007 was still upon us.

But toss that crap out now, Jose is back! During a Vince Lombardi-esque conversation with Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes was asked to ignore the media, the fans, and any other critic, so he could concentrate on being himself. So far so good, as he's been red hot since the pep talk going 6 for 9 with a double, triple and a dinger.

“I’m going to be the old Jose Reyes," he said. "I’m going to enjoy my game. I’m going to dance during the game. I’m going to do the handshakes with everybody. I’m going to keep everybody going with smiles in the dugout.”

Speaking of handshakes and high fives, how freakin sweet is it to see them up and down the Mets bench? Seriously, I feel sentimental memories stirring of the old 1986 team when Roger McDowell had the Mets in stitches. Remember the music video "Let's Go Mets!" in response to the Bears "Super Bowl Shuffle"? Anybody else see the 1986 Mets video where McDowell explained in detail how to give a guy a "hot-foot"?

That's the type of enthusiasm the entire organization feeds from. Without it, the Mets don't fill their potential, but fill us up on that energy and we'll be making videos for the world champion 2008 New York Mets!
