Don't call me Bum-Tran

Carlos Beltran seems to finally be recovering from his 2007 hangover. For the past 10 games, the NY Mets centerfielder has been outstanding, despite the fact the Mets have only won 4 of those contests.

Beltran has 14 hits in 42 at bats for a .333 batting average over the past ten games. Unfortunately his OBP isn't much higher as he's only added a pair of walks, but at a respectable .380 nobody's complaining. To put it into a clearer picture, this recent tear of Beltran's has only raised his season's average to .259. Before this hot streak, he'd been hitting a meager .240 and looked increasingly like the horror of 2007 still haunted him.

The real question then becomes, how does a guy like Carlos Beltran, who hits cleanup in a very potent Mets lineup, only amass 2 doubles, 1 home run, and 7 total RBI during a hitting hot streak? It's time Beltran truly shake off those "BUM-TRAN" jeers from the crowd and started hitting the long ball. If I wanted a guy to hit .250 in my clean up spot, Andruw Jones would atleast connect for some dingers and RBI.

The one ding that I can't seem to shake about Carlos Beltran is the fact that the dang guy isn't the clubhouse leader. He's reserved, keeps to himself, and doesn't seem to be comfortable calling guys out like Billy Wagner or getting into the middle of the action. The reason you pay a guy 18 million dollars a year is because you want the complete package. You want all the tangible attributes on the field, and all of the intangible attributes off the field. What's true in life is true in baseball, you gotta be able to communicate with your team-mates, or all hell breaks loose.
