Mets & Garret Anderson; Part - time lovers

The search for a bat to protect Delgado in the lineup has not been a feverish one. The Mets platooned the spot last year, letting a couple guys (Moises Alou, Endy Chavez, etc.) split time in left field. This year the Mets are snooping around a Mr Garret Anderson to pitch in for that spot.

Garret Anderson makes sense for the Mets on many levels. First and foremost, the guy is known for staying healthy throughout the year. Stability is not the Mets forte in left field. Anderson also is a perennial hitting machine with a lifetime batting average of .296. While his on base percentage is a rather unimpressive .329, Anderson has built a reputation as a run producer while playing his entire career with the Angels.

Anderson may also fit in well in the big apple after his experience in LA. He may not have as big an impact on the clubhouse as Manny Ramirez would, but Garret Anderson could provide adequate support hitting 6th behind Delgado.

Anderson's numbers in the playoffs aren't impressive, and he won't crush 25+ dingers a season. If he stays healthy however, he would provide adequate production in the lineup, and a steady glove in left.
