Mets Patch is a Success
The Mets commemorative patch signaling a new beginning to the same old way of losing is getting a lot of hype. In fact, it even is getting press from the front page of Yahoo!.
To me this signals a brain fart of some sub-genius at an advertising firm has actually done some good for the lovable losers from flushing. Look at all the freakin press this thing is getting! If the old saying, "even bad PR is good PR" holds any weight, this patch is doing its job.
The Yankees patch on the other hand, is casually being crowned the benchmark with which the Mets one is being compared. The funny thing about it is the fact that this appears to be the unanimous arbitrary opinion on which patch is better.
The pin stripe losers from the Bronx are the sub-beneficiaries of the brilliant plan from the Mets agency. The Yankees patch, much like the rest of their team, is predictable, non-offensive, and basically sucks. The Mets' patch on the other hand went out on a limb, took a chance, and according to every casual critic on the planet, is a terrible failure.
But the real measure of success shouldn't be the overall design of the patch. Lets face it, everyone thinks they know design, and how something should "look". No, the real measure of success for just about any design should be the attention it receives. The Mets' patch is crushing the Yankees patch in PR, and that my friends, is why the patch is a successful design.

Bullshit
This "design" sucks. It looks like a doormat. They should have used the design they already have on the caps.
