Mets Rumors: Jason Bay, Matt Holiday
NY Mets rumors have been swirling around Jason Bay and Matt Holiday for weeks now. Omar Minaya appears to be taking most of the month off, but the gaping hole in the Mets lineup still has not been addressed.
Matt Holiday's agent, Scott Boras, has stated several reasons why the NY Mets won't be able to sign Holliday during this off season. This actually may turn out to be a blessing in disguise however, as Matt Holiday is not the pull hitting threat that would be necessary to excel in the giant Citi Field ballpark.
Jason Bay however, is a pull hitter who has hit 31 homeruns or more in each of his last 5 seasons. Its no longer a rumor that the NY Mets want Jason Bay as they have offered him 4 years for about $65MM.
Bay wants out of Boston, but appears to be after a long term deal. The NY Mets need outfield help, but are really looking to fill a void in their lineup and increase their ability to score runs.
The NY Mets fatal flaw in 2009 was certainly the amount of games that they lost to injury, but that was the root cause that had the effect on the offense that couldn't be overcome. Jason Bay, rumor or not, would be an ideal candidate for the NY Mets to solidify their offense and allow them to compete with the Phils for the NL East title.
