Perfect time to trade Delgado
After a brilliant two homerun night, Carlos Delgado found a little bit of confidence. A feeling that has all but escaped the late 30's Mets first baseman. Unfortunately these performances have become few and far between. The solution is simple; The Mets should trade Carlos Delgado
"I hit a home run with no one on base in the seventh inning," Delgado remarked after the game.
To me that sounds like he's not really in it. It sounds like he's yet to learn how a player can feed off the energy of the best fans in New York. The Mets have been hoping to see this osmosis of Mets pride since they signed the Cerrano look alike following the end of the 2005 season. It just has yet to show up.
A positive note to make for all you Delgado fans out there, he hit a home run to LEFT field. Did you ever see the Yankees, Red Sox or any other team in the American League put the shift on him? Never! the reason of course is simple; Delgado could hit the ball anywhere. Since he's been with the Mets, all he has seen are three to four infielders on the right side of second base.
Because he has not been able to hit the ball to all parts of the park, Delgado has lost his touch by trying to over-compensate. Carlos Delgado is obviously a valuable asset and could hit clean up for a lot of mid market teams. He'll also cost the Mets $16 million dollars to buy out his contract.
The solution is simple, the logic is in place. Trading Delgado while his stock is high would be the best move the front office could make.
