Tigers want Heilman

The Mets have been openly shopping for another outfielder not only to fill the space by an oft injured Moises Alou, but also to fill in when any of the other players need a day off. A source close to the Tigers confirmed that the Mets have been asking about Marcus Thames in a deal that would send Jorge Sosa to Detroit.

Apparently Detroit is only interested in the deal if Heilman is on the table, to which the Mets have repeatedly stated he is not. While Heilman has struggled during the big games, he has been as reliable a set up man you can get in other games. Even though the Mets need another outfielder, they hardly have a place for a guy who strikes out so much, and who has not really performed at a high level.

There's something to this though, don't be surpised to see the mets move someone for another outfielder, or even Marcus Thames early on.
